Stitch-Sketching: Layers, Lines and Image

Using gardens, plants and found materials as a starting point we will explore direct approaches for creating colour on cloth. Techniques covered will include some of the following, transfer printing with plants and stencils, simple dye methods and sun printing, (weather allowing). Combined with layered paper and textile techniques, design exercises will lead to machine or hand stitched drawings onto lightweight fabrics, cottons, muslins, silk organza, synthetics. Possibilities will arise to create complex layered dimensional drawings which can be worked onto different fabrics and found materials/paper in a variety ways. Creative exercises using 'found objects' will further help to develop personal expression and add meaning to your work.
